19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

The win also means he has won 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
